I just couldn't resist

I like to think of myself as an organised person, not into fleeting trends, I like to plan my days and know exactly what I'm doing and when I'm doing it. Last weekend is a prime example of this, it had been decided two weeks before that we were going out to buy new Christmas decorations for the house. I knew what shops I was going to, what items I had planned to purchase and what...
When the going gets tough...

There’s a lot of speculation going on and people out there worrying about what this current economic climate means to their business.
How are they going to survive? What should they do?
I came across a great article in Marketing by Geoffrey McDonald Bowell called “When the Fan Gets Dirty”.
And what he’s basically saying is, in times like these:
- Don’t panic
- Focus on Your...
Social Networking...is it for you?
Posted by: Narelle on 16 Oct 2008 @ 4:08 pm Category: Marketing
Social networking is a relatively new phenomenon that is proving a popular and beneficial ‘tool’ for businesses to have in their marketing arsenal.
The beauty of social networking is the cost – or lack there of. Predominantly all that is required to participate is your time. But before I continue, just what is social networking?
Social networking is a way for users to build online...
A Puzzling Thought.

I love solving problems. There's nothing better (almost) than finding a solution to something that's been bugging me, or an issue I've been faced with. It should come as no surprise then that the part of my home where I spend most of my time, the back deck, is covered (extremely neatly of course, see my last post that mentions my strange behaviours) by several crossword and sudoku books.I...
Marketing is more than an idea
Posted by: Narelle on 18 Sep 2008 @ 10:23 pm Category: Marketing
I love this statement – more so I think because I can relate to it completely.
I have been in the marketing role at ireckon for just over 3 years now (the company over 4) and I could probably count on one hand (two at a push), the number of great ideas I have come up with. Don’t get me wrong, ireckon there has been a lot of great ideas that we’ve accomplished over this time, but not a...
It’s the cherry on top that makes the sundae.

I have a few odd-ball habits – and until recently wasn’t aware of how strange my habits were to others, or even myself – until they were discovered by a co-worker and raised a lot of questions. I started talking about them out loud and as I heard the words ‘I ironed my pillowcases’ come out of my mouth I almost simultaneously burst into the kind of laughter that makes it sound like...
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication!

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” (Leonardo Da Vinci). I have this quote on my office wall and refer to it often during my day.
In a world where we seem to be constantly trying to complicate the uncomplicated, it’s often the simple things that work the best.
Take web design. Now I’m no expert – we have a great team of web designers here at ireckon who are brilliant at...
Typos - do they matter?
Posted by: Narelle on 18 Jul 2008 @ 11:23 am Category: Marketing
Most things don’t annoy me. I’m a pretty laid back character…most of the time. But, if there is one thing I am pedantic about, and that can have the tendency to annoy me, then typos it is!
Whether you are a business or an individual, if any of your copy has typos in it then it can diminish your credibility and professionalism, and annoy me!
Is there an easy way to avoid typos? I...
Call me crazy....

There’s that something about a ringing phone. For me – I have a few reactions:
- I smile, and rush to pick it up because I can see the number and it’s someone I’ve been dying to speak with
- I cringe, wondering if I have the energy for a conversation that I assume is coming
- I scream (internally of course) because I’m already juggling 15 things, and a phone call is about to distract me (again)...
Secrets and Superman
Posted by: Emily on 18 Apr 2008 @ 12:44 pm Category: Marketing
I recently came across a web development company offering a FREE CD (normally worth around $100) that would unveil the Secrets to a Successful Website. Given that I work in the industry, come from a marketing background and am generally inquisitive – I had to find out what these secrets were. I ordered my CD.
The CD arrived promptly, was well branded and came with some print material about...
