The Black Hat Series No. 1 - Black Hat vs White Hat
Posted by: Andy on 23 Apr 2008 @ 5:55 pm Category: Search Engine Optimisation
This is the 1st in The Black Hat Series of blog posts - which was inspired by my realisation that businesses are increasingly being caught out and penalised for using "spammy" techniques to try and optimise and raise the profile of their websites. I acknowledge that some of these implementations are certainly intentional attempts to "trick" the search engines into giving their sites...

When starting a new project, it can often be daunting. I know, if I don't know how to fulfill every aspect of the task first up, then I start to feel uneasy.
I have currently been working on a Flash project that has definitely given me a challenge. Flash allows you to do such a variety of things, it is impossible to know how to do absolutely everything. Flash also allows several...
Secrets and Superman

I recently came across a web development company offering a FREE CD (normally worth around $100) that would unveil the Secrets to a Successful Website. Given that I work in the industry, come from a marketing background and am generally inquisitive – I had to find out what these secrets were. I ordered my CD.
The CD arrived promptly, was well branded and came with some print material about...

I recently attended a world class Search Marketing conference in Sydney and was very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet up with some of the international "stars" of Search Engine Marketing. People like Danny Sullivan, Rand Fishkin and Gord Hotchkiss - along with some of the "influencers" in the industry from Google and Microsoft.
Australia has long been considered by some to be...

Having good systems in place is a must for businesses of any size to ensure they can grow and operate as effectively and efficiently as possible. It's especially useful if you are a small business used to doing everything yourself, but are looking to expand and add more staff.
Soon after I started with ireckon and we were talking about systemizing the business, I was shown a great example...
One year and counting

Finding work just after a University graduation is often a hard task for full and part time students. When looking at employment sites you'll find that most businesses will be looking for people with at least one or two years experience within their given industry. This is particularly true when it comes to IT and Multimedia, I should know as it was just over a year since I started...
Coding Standards
Posted by: Blair on 4 Apr 2008 @ 12:22 pm Category: Programming and Coding for the Web
My lecturers were always harping on about coding standards and using comments in my code while I was at university. I usually went back after the fact and added comments for just about every line of code and this seemed to appease the lecturers. But, I never understood why they went on about it so much and considered it almost as important as whether the code did what it should.
Of course,...
Power of the Internet

I love the power of the Internet, and the way it impacts on how we as marketers can reach target audiences, often reaching audiences we hadn't even targetted, and for very little cost!
I was forwarded a link to a great video recently from a friend.
I think it's a pretty clever piece of marketing. Don't take my word for it though.
Do the test and see if you pass!
It's a video put...
